The 17th Annual Heart Ball will take place on February 22. Through the efforts of the BGH Foundation board the Heart Ball raises between $350k – $500k for much needed services and equipment to further the mission of the hospital. All to better support the needs of our community.
This year our cause is Transitional Care, Swing Beds. A swing bed is a service rural hospitals provide allowing a patient to transition from Acute Care to Skilled Nursing Facility Care without leaving the hospital. If a patient experiences an injury or an illness requiring hospitalization, they might require skilled nursing care after their initial hospital treatment ends to continue their recovery. A Swing Bed Program allows the patient to stay in the same hospital, receiving the care they need in a convenient and familiar setting. Alternatively, if no nursing facility has capacity close to home, the patient may be discharged to another skilled nursing facility in the area or, worse, outside of the community. The proceeds from this event will go towards supporting this vital program.
