Melissa Hanson is the one hardest working person I have ever worked with! Her skills and knowledge are an asset to the everyday operations of the OR from knowing Doctors preferences off the top of her head to having the ability to pivot from any situation that comes about. On top of being everyone’s go to girl she’s always down to help, whether that being an assist to the doctors or cleaning OR rooms with EVS. She is a gamer to keep the OR running as smoothly as she can for patients even if that means picking up call shifts or staying late. Melissa has been a staple in this OR for over a decade, and it definitely shows how much we all love and rely on her. It makes my entire day every time I get to work with her!!

Melissa Hanson is an excellent candidate for recognition with the Gem Award. Melissa is a hugely valuable resource in the surgery department. She has years of experience as a surgical tech and surgical assist in surgery. Her dual experience makes the day run smoother and saves valuable time in set up and during surgery. She is constantly focused on the surgeries she assists on, which means she understands the surgeries better, can anticipate problems or struggles and help execute solutions when challenges arise. In addition to her hard work and knowledge base, her attitude is another factor worthy of Gem status. She is constantly positive and “can-do” which has a trickle-down effect on all the other staff and surgeons in the OR. In a setting where one bad mood can impact a whole team of staff, Melissa acts as a counterweight to improve the atmosphere. The BGH Surgery Department is a better place with Melissa, and she is without doubt worthy of the Gem Award. Thank you, Melissa!
