The DAISY Award

The Daisy Foundation provides The DAISY Award that recognizes extraordinary nurses.

Below are some of the nurses that have been nominated for their extraordinary services, compassionate care and excellent patient relations during their time at Bonner General Health.

The DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Award is an international recognition program that honors and celebrates the skillful, compassionate care nurses provide every day. The DAISY Foundation was established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes after he died from complications of the auto-immune disease ITP in 1999. During his hospitalization, they deeply appreciated the care and compassion shown to Patrick and his entire family. When he died, they felt compelled to say “thank you” to nurses in a very public way. DAISY Award Honoree:
Erica Best, RN

” I came in for surgery to have part of my colon removed. Erica was there to spend the time to explain to me what was going on and encourage me when I felt my intestines were never going to wake up. She took the time to listen to me even if I was only telling her about my life and family.
One day I woke up feeling horrible. I was hurting and throwing up. Erica wrapped me in her arms, wiped my tears, and rubbed my head like a mom would. It turned out I had popped a stitch, and my intestines herniated into it, pinching off my intestines. I had to go in for another surgery.
Erica had a couple days off. When she got back, I was doing laps in the hallway. She saw me and gave me a great big hug and said, “I am so happy to see you up and about.” She treated me more like someone she knew forever instead of just a patient. This is the type of nurse that deserves and award!”

DAISY Award Honoree:
Bonnie Peine, RN

“As a nurse myself, I know how taxing and rigorous nursing can be, however Bonnie never let that show while caring for my mom. When my mom was wanting to give up, Bonnie was there to lift her back up and encourage her to keep going. She was not only providing physical nursing care, but also the emotional care that patients often need. Thank you so much Bonnie, and all the other nurses and CNA’s for helping my mom during her stay.

DAISY Award Honoree:
Jessica Richardson, RN

“Jessica is always smiling, happy, and so happy to see me. I look forward to seeing her and talking with her about anything and everything., especially fishing and asking about her little boys. Jess, as she told me to call her, makes me feel like I am coming home. I am a person to her, friend, and family member. Actually, that is what Bonner General is to me…home. Jess deserves this award because she is a very special person and a wonderful caring nurse. Thank you.”
